With various official acts, the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) commemorated this Tuesday, July 5, the 61st anniversary of the arrival in the country of that political organization.
The emblematic date was defined by its leadership as the “arrival of freedom and democracy in the Dominican Republic”, which occurred years later after the founding of the PRD in the sister nation of Cuba, in 1939.

Junior Santos, general secretary of the party, headed the floral offering deposited by the presidents of the PRD fronts in the sculpture of Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez, historical leader of the PRD, in front of the National House of the party.
“This celebration is propitious to highlight the historic commitment that defines the special nature of our party,” Santos said.
He indicated that the PRD represents the political, social and institutional pact that gives foundation and support to democracy and the development of the present Dominican Republic. “Every time we act in a cohesive manner and focused on the objectives that gave us origin and reason for being, we manage to produce reforms and transformations in the Dominican Republic,” Santos continued.
Junior Santos said that the commemoration program also included the conference “Freedom and democracy: the causes that gave rise to the PRD”, among other exhibitions.
Similarly, the panel “PRD: the party of opportunities” was held, with the participation of PRD youth leaders who are representatives of local governments and the National Congress.
