Popular Will asks to call primaries for 2023 and says they have their candidate

After a meeting of the militancy, Voluntad Popular suggests building and signing a governability agreement and a “national reconstruction plan”, based on the “Plan País”. Points out that one should not depend on or wait for a result regarding the negotiating table in Mexico to organize around the 2024 election

The Voluntad Popular party published this Sunday, August 21, a manifesto in which it asks that the opposition primaries be called from now on to be held in the first quarter of 2023. The same, according to the text that was read during the Federal Meeting of Activists where the president of the National Assembly elected in December 2015, Juan Guaidó, was present, must be independent with the support of the international community and that all Venezuelans inside and outside the country participate in it.

The political organization, in the voice of Freddy Superlano, revealed that it already has a candidate, “who will be announced in due course”, and that in his opinion “he has shown the courage to guarantee a candidacy that is not sold or broken.”

He suggests building and signing a governance agreement and a “national reconstruction plan” that guarantees the participation of all sectors of the country, whatever the result of the primaries and the constitutional reforms that are necessary. To do this, they will take the Country Plan “with the broadest inclusive spirit” as a basis.

Through the text published in Twitter, Popular Will resorts to the cry of «Vuelvan Caras!» exclaimed by General José Antonio Páez in the battle of the Queseras del Medio in order to “retake” the political initiative, this through a process of review, self-criticism and reflection on his past actions that will facilitate the preparation for the presidential elections of 2024 and mobilize citizens to vote.

The orange awning reiterates being aware that there are no conditions for presidential elections to be held in the most suitable way, but for this reason they insist on their willingness to reach an agreement “to rebuild Venezuela and achieve coexistence in democracy, with justice for the victims of Human Rights and presidential elections that serve as a mechanism for resolving the conflict”.

That party points out that one should not depend on or wait for a result regarding the negotiation table in Mexico, which has not yet started, to be prepared for the presidential election, for which it proposes the construction of a “great national and international movement » who fights for free elections.

The statement indicates that internally it should be done with the strengthening of the Unitary Platform, but that in turn that coalition has a sense of breadth and inclusion, while abroad the organization of the diaspora is sought so that they demand their right to vote. Similarly, Voluntad Popular seeks to promote an international alliance that orders the holding of an electoral process based on what was said in the European Union report on the 2021 regional elections.

They committed themselves from Voluntad Popular to support the mobilizations that are made in favor of the struggles for social demands and to fight for better electoral conditions. He also insisted on continuing the fight for the release of political prisoners, justice for the victims of crimes against humanity.

At the end of Julythe Voluntad Popular party ratified its founder, Leopoldo López, as national coordinator, after completing the process of reviewing, updating and relegitimizing the National Team of Activists.

“This party was not born to cohabit with the dictatorship. Anyone who wants to cohabit and feel comfortable with the regimen has plenty of options outside of VP. This party was born to conquer freedom, to lead Venezuela to democracy and give hope to Venezuelans. Let’s not lose the north, let’s not get confused, “López said then via Zoom.

The call for primary elections has caused more divisions in the Venezuelan opposition. On the one hand, politicians such as former governor Henrique Capriles and the politician from Un Nuevo Tiempo Stalin González believe that it is more important to delve into the concrete solution to the problems of Venezuelans; while there are other parties such as the AD of Ramos Allup, Convergencia and Causa R that demand a specific date to organize the primaries.

A third group, including politicians such as Antonio Ecarri and María Corina Machado, condition their participation in this process.
