The Vatican reported that Pope Francis may be discharged this Saturday (1st) and participate in the Easter celebrations. Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, the highest leader of the college of cardinals, said Francis will be present at all Easter rites, contrary to what had been reported yesterday. He will preside over the Holy Week ceremonies, but he will not read or celebrate the entire Eucharist.
Still hospitalized at the Gemelli Clinic in Rome, the pope responds well to treatment for a lung infection.
According to the Vatican, Francis spent yesterday afternoon dedicating himself to rest, prayer and work obligations. The attending physicians diagnosed infectious bronchitis that required the administration of antibiotic therapy.
The pope was hospitalized on Wednesday (29), after the general audience. He complained of pressure in his chest, which caused difficulty in breathing.
