Police launch 339 vehicles with cameras on the streets

The Government today handed over to the Police the first 339 vans equipped with front and interior cameras as part of the measures in the process of reforming the institution.

In total there will be 500 vans equipped with surveillance cameras that will check the actions of the agents inside the vehicles and also on the front when arresting or interacting with citizens.

With the new system, the agents will be monitored in real time by the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security System, which implemented the systems in the vehicles delivered to the Police.

During a ceremony held on the front esplanade of the palace of policethe commissioner for Police reform, José Vila del Castillo, reported that the next steps will be to create a security system in the detachments and purge the institution’s personnel.

However, Vila did not want to answer if the director of the Police would go to the Chamber of Deputies in case of being questioned.
