Police dismantle criminal gang that rented cars from rental companies to sell them later

The National Police together with the Public Prosecutor’s Office are carrying out Operation Renta, targeting a criminal group dedicated to the crimes of Illicit Association and Fraud through the sale of rented cars.

During the raids carried out today, Wednesday, September 25, Panamanian citizens were arrested, including the alleged leader of this criminal group, alias “Chino Laika.”

Documents, technological equipment and other evidence were seized as part of the investigations carried out by the Primary Care Prosecutor’s Office of the Metropolitan Area.

According to investigations initiated in 2022, this criminal structure rented vehicles from different leasing companies with false documents, and then put them up for sale through digital platforms, using the façade of a fictitious company, causing economic damage of more than 250 thousand dollars.

They also advertised their own cars within the range of cars available by the company, charging in advance for the deposits and processing costs, without actually delivering the vehicles.

Others arrested were aliases “Finchi” and “Patrick”, who along with “Chino Laika”, will be transferred for the corresponding procedures at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
