The block of senators of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) demanded this morning the resignation of the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Janel Andrés Ramírez Sánchez, due to the uncovering of the scandals that have been unleashed in that institution.

“This body cannot be operating with the disrepute it has, due to the crisis of immorality it is going through, it can no longer continue with Janel at the helm, it has to resign now,” he said.

He considered that Ramírez Sánchez has not taken into account all the expectations that were created around his election as head of the organization. He added that the official forgot that he inherited the presidency of a supervisory body that had just come from a tremendous scandal with serious accusations of corruption.

“The first thing I appeal for is a political trial because the discredit that the Chamber of Accounts has no longer admits any more discussion, from siege, mistreatment of employees to waste, harassment,” he said.

He added that “then the crisis in the Chamber of Accounts reached the National Congress, you saw that we had to leave the session due to the disrespect of Senator Catrain, when he was going to present an initiative of his colleague in the Justice Commission of the Senate Dionis Sánchez, who discussed in plenary that he sought to create a special commission to investigate the Chamber of Accounts, he abruptly stopped and said that this was not appropriate.

Lorenzó criticized the attitude of Senator Pedro Catrain, president of the Senate Justice Commission, of denying the facts that Ramírez Sánchez is accused of, although the aggrieved women have already filed a complaint for sexual harassment and labor mistreatment before the Attorney General’s Office. The PLD representative for the province, Elías Piña, said that what was approved in the Senate was Senator Dionis Sánchez’s proposal to create a special commission to determine whether the accusations against Ramírez Sánchez are true or not.

The representative of the Modern Revolutionary Party for the Samaná province has dismissed the complaints against the president of the Chamber of Accounts, alleging that they do not make sense and that evidence had been presented against him.

Last Thursday’s session in the Senate fell due to the withdrawal of the PLD senators alleging that they were disrespected by Catrain, who the day before had suspended a meeting of justice alleging that the accusation against the president of the regulatory body was proceeding.

In last Thursday’s session of the Senate, the official senator for Puerto Plata, Ginnette Bournigal, also recommended that Ramírez Sánchez and the members of the Chamber of Accounts that aired the accusation of harassment against him, resign.
