MIAMI, United States. — First it was the great success of the feature film plantedwith his overwhelming triumph, by winning the audience award and other very important recognitions that elevated him to the top of the Miami Film Festival in 2021.
Those of us who had the opportunity to attend the filming and knew in advance of the talent of the film’s director, the award-winning filmmaker Lilo Vilaplana, as well as those who made up his work team, including the set of actors and actresses, were sure that that with the testimonies of the planted political prisoners something great was going to happen.
For the realization of this historic film we were lucky to have the financial contribution of the businessman, and friend, Leopoldo Fernandez Pujals, whose uncle, José L. Pujals Mederos, served 27 years as a political prisoner planted in the dungeons of the tyrant Fidel Castro. They were Ángel De Fana, with more than 20 years in prison, Roberto Perdomo and Eusebio Peñalver, both with more than 28 years, and Mario Chanes de Armas, the latter with 30 years of inhuman confinement, all belonging to the group of historical planted, who inspired the motivation of Fernández Pujals to make his generous contribution.
Now we are facing another great film success by Lilo Vilaplana. this time is planted, that although his name is interwoven with those of the tape that includes the history of the political prisoners planted, it is not a continuation of it, but rather a reaffirmation of government criminal actions. And it is for this reason that, as a starting point, it has identical origins.
This time it was the turn of the Cuban woman, the heroic political prisoners who, despite the humiliation they suffered with the nakedness of their bodies during endless periods of isolation in the infernal dungeons of punishment, decided to dress in glory and stand on the physical and spiritual miseries with which their jailers tried in vain to reduce them in their condition of planted.
Among the fundamentals that draw attention to what has made possible the cinematographic creation of planted It stands out, and it is fair to recognize it, the initiative and perseverance; the irrevocable decision that this moving film was carried out against all odds.
From the gratitude that corresponds to me, my admiration and respect this time for another great Cuban, outstanding in his fight for the freedom of Cuba and in the militant leadership of Alpha 66, in his capacity as Coordinator of Military Affairs. I am referring to Reinol Rodríguez, who set about the task, starting from scratch, of raising the necessary funds by going practically from door to door, organizing fundraising dinners and surrounding himself with a group of courageous people, of proven honesty and love for Cuba, his homeland enslaved.
Knowing the creativity of Lilo Vilaplana, her almost miraculous way of achieving the best hits with few resources, we should not be surprised by the impressive triumph that at the 40th edition of the Miami International Film Festival, where, like planted, planted won the award for the feature film most voted by the public, in addition to winning the honorable award for the best film made in Miami among those that competed in the prestigious Film Festival this year 2023. Bravo!
However, the extraordinary reception that planted is having in the movie theaters of Miami. We are pleased to know that, due to its cinematographic quality and extraordinary influx of audiences, the showing of this film has been extended for three weeks in the theaters of the Dolphin Mall in Miami.
This film delivery that our beloved Lilo Vilaplana makes us is of vital importance, and with him his son Camilo, who was assigned the important responsibility of co-director. Don’t stop watching it. With your presence you will not only be honoring these heroic planted, but you will feel proud of the Cuban woman and her contribution to the cause for the freedom of Cuba.
