PJ evaluated Pedro Castillo’s appeal against the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress

The Ninth Constitutional Court of the Lima Superior Court of Justice evaluated this Friday the habeas corpus presented by the President of the Republic, against the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress.

As it is recalled, said working group has been carrying out a process against him for alleged treason against the homeland and violation of the Constitution for allegedly offering an outlet to the sea to Bolivia through Peruvian territory.

The president’s lawyer, Eduardo Pachas, pointed out that in the interview that Castle Lumps gave to CNN en Español was explaining his opinions when he was a “ordinary citizen”and what now “your opinion is different” because you already know the Constitution.

“It has not been substantiated where the president says the word sovereignty. My sponsor must be protected. He repeats 3 times during 3 minutes (the subject was touched on in the interview) that it is not his intention to give an outlet to the sea”he expressed.

“Now the press puts my sponsor as if he is going to jail. The presumption of innocence and freedom of conscience are violated.added the lawyer, who asked that the admission of the complaint be declared null and void.

After concluding with the oral report of the procedural parties, Judge Juan Torres Tasso reported that the resolution of the case will be issued within the legal term, in accordance with the Constitutional Procedure Code.

As it is recalled, on February 28, the subcommission declared admissible constitutional complaint No. 219 against Pedro Castillo for alleged treason due to his statements about access to the sea for Bolivia.

The accusation was presented after the president’s statements during an interview he gave to the international network Cnn in Spanish. On March 13, the president’s legal defense filed a habeas corpus to declare the admission null and void.

The habeas corpus lawsuit, promoted by the lawyer Eduardo Pachas, is for the alleged violation of the right to individual liberty, due process, and due effective procedural protection in parliament.
