The receiving countries implement migratory obstacles, such as the application for a visa, to reduce the migratory flow, but according to the deputy Miguel Pizarro, these measures do not work and instead subject them to situations that put their lives at risk, for which he asks more inclusive policies
The deputy to the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2015, Miguel Pizarro, drew attention to the need for inclusive policies on the part of the countries receiving Venezuelan migration, by ensuring that the requirement of visas does not reduce the migratory flow, but that increases the risks for the migrant population.
Through its twitter account, the also commissioner appointed by Juan Guaidó to represent the interim government before the United Nations Organization (UN), recounted the obstacles imposed by receiving countries during 2022 against Venezuelan migration, with measures such as the requirement of visas only to Venezuelans in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Belize and Honduras; or the new program for migrants in the United States that requires a sponsor.
«Migratory obstacles, instead of controlling the migratory flow, increase the risk of migrants and refugees suffering dangers at the hands of illegal gangs. Inclusive policies are necessary that allow insertion in the host countries », he opined.
The parliamentarian stressed that thanks to this measure, the cases of Venezuelans trying to cross dangerous routes such as the Darién jungle have increased and they are at the mercy of criminal gangs that put the lives of thousands of people at risk.
“In 2022, the number of countries that require a visa for Venezuelans to enter increased. As a result of this, the number of people risking their lives in jungles and oceans in order to reach their final destination has also increased,” he said.

According to the National Migration Service of Panama, some 107,692 Venezuelans crossed the Darién as of September 2022, including pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
“Many reached their destination, but many others died on the way or are missing,” Pizarro warned.

Migration containment policies are taken by governments under the argument that the reception of migrants has a significant social and economic impact.
Despite the arguments of the receiving countries, the figures show that the impact of migrant populations tends to have a positive influence on the economic performance of those countries, since immigrants do not require greater social investment from the Government but, in On the other hand, they constitute a significant labor force as they are of working age and generally have a high degree of academic and professional training.
