PIT-CNT delivered 50 homes

This Saturday, with the participation of authorities from the Ministry of Housing, the Municipality of Montevideo and the PIT-CNT, and in an emotional ceremony, 50 families fulfilled the dream of having their own house, after the keys to 50 houses of the Cooperativa Covifusion Sua II were drawn in Montevideo, within the framework of the Union Housing Program.

The cooperative located in Punta de Rieles, founded by the needle union in 2011, began work in 2019, and after three years — with a pandemic in between — managed to finish the houses.

According to Pablo Antonáz, director of the CET-PVS Technical Institute, this is one of the largest cooperatives within the Ministry of Housing. “There are about 50 families that in record time reached a very good construction quality,” he said. The work lasted for 30 months.

A good part of the beneficiary families of the houses are made up mainly of women heads of household, as is the case of the president of the cooperative, Alejandra Trinidad, who has three children. “We have been waiting for many years, with many sacrifices and difficult things. And now we have the house; all for the children. It was worth it,” she said excitedly.

The houses were built with the non-traditional construction system M2 (Emmedue). Regarding this, Marcelo Abdala, president of the PIT-CNT, said that it offers “quality housing, low cost, with a fast delivery time”, to which is added “adequate financing”.

The Union Housing Program plans to close the year with 2,000 homes built. The next ones to be inaugurated in September are located in the city of Fray Bentos. “We will continue like this until the end of the year. We will reach 2 thousand homes. It is a joy to be inaugurating cooperatives every month”, said Antonáz.
