In an official note, the PGR informed that the objective is to repeat the “climate of tranquility” of the first round. The body did not detail the types of security measures that were discussed at the meeting.

“It was a meeting where we analyzed the follow-up work done so far in the period leading up to the second round, which will be held on October 30, and the set of preventive measures in which our institutions are involved so that everything happens in an orderly and democratic,” Aras said.

A balance sheet by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security shows that 1,378 electoral crimes were recorded during the first round of the election, on October 2nd. There were 352 arrests, in addition to the seizure of R$ 137 thousand. The data are from Operation Elections 2022, coordinated by the Department of Integrated Operations of the folder (Seopi/MJSP).

The most common electoral crime caught by public security agents was exiting the ballot box, with 456 occurrences recorded in 26 states and the Federal District. Vote buying or electoral corruption was in second place, with 95 occurrences. There were also 80 cases of attempted or violation of the secrecy of the vote, which is when the voter takes a picture of the ballot box, and 57 cases of irregular transport of voters.
