Images posted on the internet show the victim trapped inside a smoky vehicle. The suspicion is that the smoke was a gas fired by the police, which would have resulted in the death of Genivaldo by asphyxiation.

According to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Sergipe, a necropsy was performed, and the material collected was sent to the Institute of Forensic Analysis and Research (IAPF) to elucidate the immediate cause of death. But it was identified in a preliminary way that the victim’s cause of death was acute insufficiency secondary to asphyxia.

According to the IML, mechanical asphyxia is when there is an obstruction to the flow of air between the external environment and the lungs. “This obstruction can occur through several factors and at that first moment it was not possible to establish the immediate cause of asphyxia, nor how it occurred”, says a note from the institute. Upon completion, the reports will be forwarded to the Federal Police.

In a note, the Federal Police informs that it will investigate “the circumstances of the death” and that steps have already been initiated to clarify “as soon as possible” what happened.

THE Brazil Agency contacted the Federal Highway Police and is awaiting a return.
