The Federal Police (PF) and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) carried out, this Tuesday (5), 12 search and seizure warrants in an investigation into betting manipulation involving football games. One of the targets of the Sport-Fixing operation is Flamengo player Bruno Henrique.
PF investigation, based on a communication made by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), finds out whether the player received a yellow card, which later evolved into a red card, during a match for the Brazilian Championship last year, to favor bettors, among them their relatives.
Bettors are also being investigated by the PF. According to reports from the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and Sportradar, which carry out risk analysis, there would be suspicions of manipulation of the card market in the match.
According to the PF, data obtained from bookmakers showed that the bets had been placed by the player’s relatives and by another group still under investigation.
The search and seizure warrants, issued by the Federal District Court, are being carried out in the cities of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Belo Horizonte, Vespasiano, Lagoa Santa and Ribeirão das Neves, in Minas Gerais.
The press office of player Bruno Henrique informed that, for now, he will not issue any statement. Clube de Regatas Flamengo announced that the club is still becoming aware of the facts.
According to the PF and the MPRJ, this is, in theory, a “crime against the uncertainty of the sporting result”, which is the conduct typified in the General Sports Law, with a penalty of two to six years in prison.
