The executive director of Commercialization and Logistics at Petrobras, Cláudio Mastella, said today (24th) that the company is monitoring the evolution of the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, which, so far, is restricted to the region. Therefore, he analyzed not seeing an impact on the safety of customer service in Brazil, supplied by refineries in the country and by imports from other areas in the world.
With regard to prices, however, Mastella sees the impact of a very strong increase in price volatility in the market. “Today there was a peak that has not yet stabilized,” he said. The entire market is watching what is happening and trying to assess the consequences of the crisis, based on the unfolding situation in Ukraine, he said.
Rodrigo Costa, Executive Director of Refining and Natural Gas, followed up on Mastella’s positioning. He said that Petrobras is following the whole movement of the new reality of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the United States to Europe, Africa and Asia, due to the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, given that a significant portion of the gas imported by Brazil comes from the United States.
He said, however, that the company sees no risk in moving cargo to meet contractual commitments. “What we do see is a very significant impact on costs, because we are already seeing LNG pricing movements returning to a level of US$ 300 a barrel. Extremely high thresholds, which bring greater onerosity to the cost of regasification“.
He does not, however, see load availability problems. With the recovery of the reservoirs, Costa believes that there is no need for greater imports to supply the thermoelectric and non-thermoelectric markets in Brazil.
