Venezuela and Colombia refine joint work path

Petro will convene a conference to promote Venezuelan dialogue

The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, informed this Tuesday through his account on the social network Twitter that he is going to convene an “international conference” to advance the political dialogue between “society and the Venezuelan government.”

“I will convene an international conference in Colombia with the aim of building the roadmap that allows for effective political dialogue between society and the Venezuelan government,” the president said briefly in the post.

Petro met with Maduro on March 23 at the Aquiles Nazoa Cultural House in Caracas, in their fourth meeting since both nations resumed diplomatic relations in August 2022.

It should be remembered that it was last November 1 the presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro and Colombia, Gustavo Petro, signed a joint declaration of cooperative relations.

By August 29, Colombia and Venezuela presented credentials to endorse the establishment of ambassadors in both republics after the resumption of diplomatic relations.

Next, the Colombian consulates were opened in Caracas, Maracaibo (Zulia) and San Cristóbal (Táchira), the Venezuelan cities with the largest presence of Colombian citizens.

Economic relations were reestablished on September 26, 2022, when the border between the two countries was reopened, after seven years of being closed.

On October 21, 2022, the First Binational Parliamentary Meeting between Colombia and Venezuela was held, within the framework of the reestablishment of bilateral relations and the opening of more than 2,000 kilometers shared by both border States.
