Petro meets with a union of banks in search of economic relief

In search of new instruments to generate economic relief for Colombian households, affected by high interest rates, President Gustavo Petro met this Tuesday with the president of Asobancaria, Jhonatan Malagónto address the possibility of opening new discount lines and other alternatives that allow the financial inclusion of hundreds of thousands of Colombians in the next three years.

(Government launches a million credits to boost the popular economy).

At the meeting, Malagón celebrated the credit inclusion strategy of the popular economy CREO, which will promote the placement of one million credit operations for Colombians who do not have access to formal financing, which was launched on Tuesday.

“We believe that the project is very well focused and of the million loans, close to 80%, will be finally disbursed by Colombian banks,” Malagon specified.

He added that the country has made progress in access to financial products and proof of this is that more than 90% of Colombians have a financial product.

(‘Low interest can come for other types of credits’).

Of this number, he explained, only a third of them have a credit product. What is wanted is that the “revolution that we have seen in bank access” now reaches this financing model.

Finally, he assured that “The Government, correctly, has thought of different instruments. For example, discount lines, guarantees from the National Guarantee Fund, and this, added to the clear willingness of banks to continue reaching these segments, will allow us to financially include hundreds of thousands of Colombians over the next three years.” .
