For Rodrigo Arosemena, general manager of WOW Peru, “The internet changed the world more than anything else in history, so distributing its access in a decentralized and equitable way, today, would allow people to achieve digital freedom, economic independence and community development.”
What is the situation in the provinces?
With a market share of 16.3% at the end of September, the company consolidated itself as the operator with the highest growth in regions, surpassing the 12 percentage points it achieved in June of this year, according to Osiptel’s quarterly report.
The 4.3% increase in its market share goes hand in hand with its expansion. In just two years, it has more than 120,000 clients in 85 districts, 25 provinces and 13 departments nationwide.
“Our goal is to decentralize the internet in Peru. For many years, large companies have focused only on Lima, leaving aside important regions throughout Peru, such as Ica, Huancavelica, Tarapoto, Chiclayo, Tacna, Moquegua, among others, where we have a presence”said the executive.
This lack of connectivity in the country opened the door for new providers like WOW Peru to be pioneers in fiber optic internet connection. According to the Osiptel report, the company leads the market share in Huancavelica and Ica with 51% and 43%, respectively, surpassing the rest of the fixed internet operators.
