During a press conference, where Arnoldo Wiens and Santiago Peña announced a unity pact for the upcoming general presidential elections, he urged Chartism to support a political trial against Antonio Fretes, Minister of the Court.
“You have to support the institutions. We want transparent justice because otherwise, peace is at risk. These are signs that we are giving to have a strengthened Colorado Party, ”he said.
He commented that in the same way, this is not a condition to seal the unit.
“We want to help Santiago to be the next president of the Republic. We want the institutional framework to be respected. We want to work for a renewed Colorado Party, with proposals to have a republic that can develop in the future,” he said.
Santiago Peña, presidential candidate, for his part, affirmed that he considers it unnecessary to support a political trial, because when Congress returns to function again in March, Fretes would already be serving his last days before retirement.
“We agree that justice has to improve, I am glad that the renewal process has begun. Encourage good Paraguayans to participate and that the citizens accompany. By the time Parliament is renewed, there would be a few days left before the dismissal of this person. I share the discomfort but I want to look at the renewal process in a positive way,” said Peña.
