Pelota al Medio a la Esperanza launched a new edition of “Solidarity Communities”

The Ministry of the Interior, through the Directorate for Coexistence and Citizen Security, launched the “Solidarity Communities” campaign and recognized outstanding athletes within the framework of the Pelota al Medio a la Esperanza program. The head of the unit, Santiago González, and the National Undersecretary of Sport, Pablo Ferrari, pointed out the importance of the subject.

Until July 25, the campaign will promote the collection of footwear, warm clothing, blankets, padding, mattresses, non-perishable food and construction materials, to be used by children and adolescents in the Montevidean areas of Casavalle, Bella Italia, Flor de Maroñas and Marconi. Within the framework of the new edition of the campaign, on July 17, at 12:30 p.m., on the Kibón boulevard, a solidarity event will be held, in which some 400 portions of lentil casserole will be made for benefit.

In his speech, González highlighted the work of the members of Pelota al Medio a la Esperanza and thanked the public and private organizations that collaborate in this task. He also emphasized that the program transcends the different governments.

He assured that the closeness of the State in the different neighborhoods is essential, so coordination between the institutions is key.

British Embassy Donation

For his part, the National Undersecretary for Sport, Pablo Ferrari, praised the work and achievements. He affirmed that not only sports practice is carried out, but coexistence is promoted. Likewise, he announced that the Secretariat works with foreign embassies based in Uruguay in order to obtain collaborations in clothing for the different teams that participate in their sports projects and plans. In particular, he mentioned the donation to be made by the British Embassy of two 60-team kits for the prison rugby teams.

On the occasion, outstanding athletes participating in the program, from the U-16, U-18 and University categories, were recognized. In turn, clothing was delivered to those teams that compete in the University Sports League (LUD).
