The president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães, recently made his resignation official. In a letter sent to President Jair Bolsonaro, Guimarães countered the allegations of sexual harassment made by employees of the institution and claimed innocence.
About half an hour after the letter was published, the Official Diary of the Union published the resignation at the request of Pedro Guimarães and the appointment of Daniella Marques Consentino as the new president of Caixa. Special Secretary for Productivity and Competitiveness at the Ministry of Economy, Consentino has been in government since January 2019 and was special advisor to Minister Paulo Guedes until the beginning of the year.
“In my role as Caixa’s president, I have always been committed to combating all forms of harassment, repelling any and all forms of violence, in any of its possible configurations. The reported accusations are not true! I repeat: the accusations are not true and do not reflect my professional or personal attitude. I am absolutely certain that these accusations will not be supported when undergoing a technical and impartial evaluation”, wrote Guimarães, who also posted the letter on the social network Instagram.
In charge of the institution since January 2019, Guimarães resigned after the news website published, yesterday (28) night, accusations by career employees of Caixa that accused him of sexual harassment. The case is being investigated by the Federal Public Ministry.
The government has not yet announced a replacement for Pedro Guimarães. This morning, he even attended an event with Caixa employees, where he defended himself against the accusations and said that his management cleaned up the financial institution’s accounts.
In the letter, Guimarães highlighted that Caixa received certifications as places of respect for women. He mentioned the bank’s certification in the 6th edition of the Pro-Equity of Gender and Race Program, of the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights. The outgoing president also mentioned the seal of Best Company to Work for in 2021 – Great Place To Work®, received by the institution in 2021 by an international consultancy specializing in monitoring work environments.
Daniella Consentino also participated in the launching ceremony of Plano Safra. Guimaraes did not attend.
