Pedro Castillo: They raise charges for criminal organization and influence peddling

The ex-president Pedro Castillo is one step away from being impeached by Congress for the alleged crimes of criminal organizationaggravated influence peddling and collusion, according to the final report that will be voted on Thursday at the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations (SAC).

The document, to which he had access The Republicalso includes the proposed accusation against the former Minister of Transport and today a fugitive John Silvafor the alleged crimes of criminal organization and collusion.

Likewise, the former Minister of Housing would be accused and later of the Transport sector Geiner Alvaradoby criminal organization.

Pedro Castillo and the former ministers will be charged, as part of the political trial, under the constitutional complaint filed by the nation’s prosecutor, Patricia Benavides.

Indictment for three cases

There are three cases that give rise to the final report with the proposed accusation. On the one hand, the appointment of Hugo Chávez Arévalo to positions at PetroPerú, in exchange for an alleged payment of 30,000 soles by the financier Fermín Silva Cayatopa.

In this regard, the final report also refers to a takeover in PetroPerú, in order to direct public contracts in favor of companies close to Pedro Castillo.

A second case has to do with the takeover of the Ministry of Transportation, with Juan Silva in charge, to direct works, as is the case of the Tarata bridge, in San Martín, which was awarded to the Puente Tarata III Consortium, made up of the companies Tableros y Puentes SA (TAPUSA), Termirex SAC and HB Estructuras Metálicas SAC

The third case links the Ministry of Housing, with Geiner Alvarado in charge of the sector. From this ministry, they would have directed the sanitation projects. They also issued emergency decree 102-2021, which allowed local governments to make special tenders.

Thus, the district municipality of Anguía awarded a water project to the IENSCON consortium, whose representative Hugo Jhony Espino Lucanas would have paid 200,000 soles in exchange, in two armadas.

The final report will be supported this Thursday the 29th in the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations and then it will go to the plenary session of Congress, to formalize the accusation. After this step, the nation’s prosecutor may continue with the process in court.
