During the morning of Wednesday, December 7, Pedro Castillo offered a message, where he announced the temporary closure of Congress. Following the statement, the Ministers of State resigned from their position, one of them was Heidy Juárez.
“Given the decision made by the president, the same one that does not conform to the constitutional order and my democratic principles, I have decided to present my resignation from the position of Minister for Women and Vulnerable Populations. Democracy must come first,” she wrote on her official Twitter account.
What was Pedro Castillo’s message?
In addition to temporarily dissolving Congress and calling elections to elect new parliamentarians, Pedro Castillo announced a curfew that runs from Wednesday, December 7, from 10 PM to 4 AM on Thursday, December 8.
“To convene in the shortest term elections for a new Congress with constituent powers to prepare a new Constitution within a period not exceeding nine months. Until the new Congress is established, it will be governed by decree law,” said Castillo.
