Pedro Castillo: Congress formalizes accusation against the former president for criminal organization

This February 19, the Congress of the republic formalized the accusations against the former president Pedro Castillo for three crimes: criminal organization, collusion and influence peddling. The initiative was made official by the legislative resolution 006-2022-2023-CRwhich was published in the Bulletin of Legal Regulations of the Official Gazette El Peruano.

In the same way, the measure became official against the ex-ministers of Pedro Castillo John Silva (Transport and Communications) and Geiner Alvarado (Housing, Construction and Sanitation). Both are charged with the crime of criminal organization. It is worth saying that a difference between them is that Silva Villegas He is also charged with the crime of collusion.

Given this scenario, the Public ministry may formalize the investigation and thus initiate criminal proceedings against the ex-president Terrones Castleas requested by the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, on October 11, 2022 before Parliament when presenting the constitutional complaint.

As you remember, last Friday, the national representation approved the final report that recommended accusing the former head of state for three crimes. The decision was taken with 59 votes in favour, 23 against and three abstentions.

The benches that supported the document were Popular Force, Popular Action, Alliance for Progress, Popular Renewal, Avanza País, We Can, We Are Peru; as well as the non-grouped Héctor Acuña, Carlos Anderson, Juan Burgos, Edward Málaga and Flor Pablo.
