The leadership of the Democratic Labor Party (in Portuguese Partido Democrático Trabalhista, PDT) announced Tuesday that it will support the candidate of the Workers’ Party (PT) and former president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the second round of the elections to take place on October 30.
The president of the PDT, Carlos Lupi, announced at the end of a meeting that the decision was unanimous within the high command of the party and reported that a program had already been sent to the PT on Monday with three of the campaign proposals that they expect included in Lula’s program.
It is a project of minimum income, the renegotiation of the debt of small and medium-sized companies, and investments in education. To these three, already known by the PT, a fourth proposal will be added on the creation of a new labor code to protect the rights of workers.
Although the PT did not doubt that it would have the support of the PDT for this second round, the news is about the position of its candidate, Ciro Gomes, who during the campaign has been belligerent with Lula and with those who pressured him to resign from the race. presidential due to the lack of aspirations to access even the second round.
Gomes, who intended to present himself as the third way in these elections, was surpassed in third place by the candidate of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), Simone Tebet.
Now it will be necessary to see what direction Tebet will take, who has to deal with the different sensitivities within his center-right party, as well as with his candidacy partners, Ciudadania and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), a historical rival of the PT.
