Passport: What will the process be like without appointments to obtain the document from September?

The National Superintendent of Migrations, Jorge Fernández Campos, reported this Tuesday that from September of this year it is expected to eliminate the appointment system to obtain the electronic passport and thus return to the type of care that was available before the coronavirus pandemic (COVID- 19).

According to the schedule, from September it should be like this (without appointments) and that is what we want to accomplish. What happens is that (first) we want to meet the demand and we are giving deadlines”, the official pointed out.

Fernández Campos commented that in this way the aim is to reach the previous service modality in which the citizen paid the fee to acquire the document, went to the Migration office of his city, stood in line and in one or two hours he already had your document.

Steps to obtain the electronic passport

The electronic passport can be processed in person at the offices of the National Migration Superintendence at the national level and at the MAC Ventanilla, MAC Lima Este, MAC Callao and MAC Cajamarca centers. The document is valid for 5 years.

People with disabilities can attend their appointment with a companion if needed.

The requirements are:

DNI in good condition and without electoral fines.

Affidavit for loss or theft of passport, if applicable.

Check available dates for an appointment (This option will be suspended in September, as announced by Migrations).

Pay the processing fee:

The payment to obtain the passport is S/ 98.60. It can be done online through the portal with code 01810. Also at Banco de la Nación offices or Multired agents.

The voucher or payment receipt must be kept to complete the process.

The procedure:

To start the process you must bring your ID, payment receipt and proof of the appointment (this would no longer be necessary from September). The procedure is personal. That day Migrations will take a photo of the applicant for the passport.

For the photo, it is recommended not to wear glasses or large frames or lenses that prevent seeing the eyes, and not to wear colored cosmetic contact lenses.

It is also requested not to wear a hat, bangs or hair covering the face.

Collect the passport:

The delivery of the passport is currently made on the same day of the appointment and if for some reason it cannot be picked up that day, there is a two-month period to do so, otherwise it will be destroyed and another must be processed. Once the appointment system is eliminated, the travel document can be picked up one or two hours after the process begins at the Migration offices or MAC centers.
