As of this Friday, July 7, the circulation of light and heavy vehicles of up to 45 tons will be allowed through the Christ the Redeemer International Pass. After the closure of the pass on June 21 due to damage caused by a storm on the asphalt on the Argentine side, the Chilean authorities have provided details about the opening and the restrictions that will be applied.
The Regional Ministerial Secretary of Public Works of the Valparaíso Region, Yanino Riquelme González, reaffirmed that on Friday, July 7, a lane will be enabled with some restrictions for circular, as previously announced. Route 60, which connects both countries on the Chilean side, suffered heavy damage, including sinkholes caused by the river in some sectors and damage to the road due to large stones near the curves of the Caracol.
To address the sinkholes, long-range repairs are underway, so segmentation has been implemented in the area. Currently, it is allowed circular to light and heavy vehicles of up to 45 tons and 4 meters wide on a designated track. This restriction has been established by Roads to guarantee road safety.
In the most affected areas, new technology is being used to replace the pavement, which will allow the road to be used within 48 to 72 hours. According to Riquelme González, it is expected to be able to restore traffic through a track as of Thursday, July 7, complying with the commitment established in the Christ the Redeemer International Pass.
The driving hours for the Christ the Redeemer International Pass They are being coordinated by the authorities of both countries and it is expected that more details about them will be provided in the coming days. It is important to bear in mind that, due to the repairs and restrictions in force, it is essential to be attentive to the indications of the authorities and to respect the rules of the road to guarantee the safety of all road users.
