Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez is on an official mission in the United States, where he held a meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Ruíz Hernández, Martínez-Acha discussed issues on the bilateral agenda that has gained momentum since the beginning of the government of President José Raúl Mulino.
During the meeting, Blinken congratulated the foreign minister on his appointment and on Panama’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025-2026. Both diplomats discussed issues such as inclusive economic growth, democratic governance, migration management and the fight against drug trafficking, highlighting the cooperation between both countries.
Acha also participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity in the Americas, along with representatives from 11 other countries. At this meeting, collaboration to foster inclusive and sustainable prosperity in the region was discussed. Martínez-Acha underlined Panama’s commitment to play a leadership role and contribute to resilient and diversified supply chains.
The agenda in Washington also included participation in an event of the United States Chamber of Commerce, the launch of the Americas Partnership Investors Network and a meeting with Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS.
