The Panamanian Foreign Minister, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, will begin from this Sunday, January 8 to Tuesday, January 10, an Official Mission in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, to participate in the Seventeenth Pravas Bharatiya Divas Conference 2023, invited by the Indian government.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is the first time in the last 15 years that a Panamanian foreign minister travels to this Asian country.
The visit includes meetings with President Chan Santokhi of Suriname, with President Irfaan Ali of Guyana and a bilateral meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister.
The event is expected to be opened by the Indian Prime Minister; Narendra Modi and count on the presence of the president; Drupadi Murmu, and that of the Foreign Minister; Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
On the other hand, Chancellor Tewaney will participate on January 10 and 11 in the Global Investment Summit, an event organized by the government of Madhya Pradesh, in which she will make a long-awaited presentation and later visit the Indore Special Economic Zone.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention will focus on Latin America, as part of the government’s efforts to unite the diaspora for the development of the country, and will feature special guests such as the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu and the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Among the guests of honor are the president of Suriname; Chan Santokhi, the President of Guyana; Irfaan Ali and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, all of Indian descent.
Upon his return, in Mumbai, Tewaney Mencono will meet with senior executives from Exim Bank, Excel Entertainment, Reliance and with CEOs of important companies linked to the merchant marine industry and will participate in the Summit: Voices of the South, priority of the Global South: “Ensuring an enabling environment” which is sponsored by the government of India, in the framework of its G20 presidency.
It is important to mention that India is a priority partner in Panama’s cooperation agenda, with which we promote the transfer of knowledge through collaboration agreements between both nations, which will boost high-level exchanges.
Minister Tewaney will return to Panama on January 13 to resume her daily work schedule, the Foreign Ministry explained.
