The Tourism Authority of Panama and the Panamanian Institute of Sports, officially announced at a press conference, that the beach of the community of Santa Catalina will host the XVI version of the “Panamerican Surfing Games 2023” from April 21 to 30.
The competition that will have more than 400 athletes from 22 countries, who will compete for 42 places at the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023 in November of this year and that are part of the route to the Olympic Games.
Luis Denis Arce, General Director of Pandeportes, stated that the institution is extremely pleased to be part of this international event for the second consecutive year, which puts our country on the sports world map, especially surfing, a sport that requires great skill and preparation on the part of the athlete.
“We believe in sports tourism because it is a tool for sustainable growth of both the economy and employment, services and inputs that impact not only the region where this Pan American Championship will be held, such as the beautiful beaches of the community of Santa Catalina. in the province of Veraguas, it will surely impact the entire country” said Denis Arce.
In the 2023 Pan American Surfing Championship for men and women, the modalities of Short Board (Shortboard), Long Board (Longboard) and Stand Up Paddle Surf and technical race (6 kilometers) will be competed.
Iván Eskildsen, Minister of the Tourism Authority of Panama, highlighted the importance of betting on sport as a path to sustainable development and recalled that only in the 2022 version in Playa Venao it represented two million dollars to the Panamanian economy (hotels, food, artisans , transport, tourist guides and shopping).
