Panama and Mexico in an unprecedented Final in the Gold Cup

The teams of Panama and Mexico will meet this Sunday, July 16, in the 2023 Gold Cup final at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in a match that will face them for the first time for the title of this tournament.

The Panamanians agreed to the final by beating the United States 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout after the match ended tied at one goal per side, it is the third time that Panama will play the final of this tournament, in 2005 they lost to the United States and in 2013 again the American team again left the Panamanians unable to lift the trophy.

For its part, Mexico clearly defeated Jamaica 3 goals to 0 to reach the final for the eleventh time in its history, being the team that has won the Gold Cup the most times by lifting the trophy 8 times.
In this 2023 Gold Cup, the Panamanians reach the final with 3 wins and two draws, after beating Costa Rica (2-1), Martinique (2-1) and drawing with El Salvador (2-2) in the group round, beating Qatar (4-0) in the quarterfinals and the United States (1-1) via penalties (5-4), the Panamanian eleventh has scored 11 goals and allowed 6 goals.

For its part, Mexico arrived with four wins and one loss, achieved victory over Haiti (3-1) and Honduras (4-0) and fell to Qatar (1-0) in the group round, in the quarterfinals it left the on the way to Costa Rica (2-0) and in the semifinals they beat Jamaica (3-0), they have 12 goals scored and only allowed 2 goals.
