Businessman Pablo Marçal, a member of the Pros, launched today (16) his candidacy for the presidency of the Republic at the headquarters of one of his companies, Plataforma Internacional, in Barueri (SP), in the Alphaville neighborhood, in the Greater São Paulo region.
Marçal’s candidacy, however, is questioned at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Two wings of the Pros are vying for the party’s leadership: one, of which Marçal is a member, is in favor of his own candidacy; the other defends the coalition with the PT and support for the candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
At the end of July, when the party was led by members in favor of their own candidacy, a party convention officially named Marçal as a candidate. On the 10th, however, a court decision placed the wing in favor of the coalition with the PT in charge of the party.
Yesterday (15), the Pros approved the party’s entry into the coalition that supports Lula and removed Marçal’s name from the presidential race. The TSE has not yet decided on the exclusion of the entrepreneur’s candidacy. Until 7 pm, the court’s candidacy publicity system included Marçal’s name as a candidate, as well as the Pros’ participation in the coalition together with the PT.
“I’m so sorry about that, I won’t back down. They have already sought me out to resign to avoid legal problems. I will reiterate something of my own: I am a lawyer by training, I have never taken anyone to court. This will be the first time I’m going to do it, because I got into it to help our people. I know that the current political system does not accept outsiders, they do everything [para isso não ocorrer]. I understand this as an undemocratic coup,” Marçal said at a late-afternoon press conference.
At night, during the candidacy launch event, Marçal said he was prepared to assume the presidency of the Republic and highlighted the defense of the family. “I am ready to spend the four years of my life dedicating myself, governing this nation to restore families, to open companies, generate jobs, to ward off this monster of inflation that plagues the world so much and has devastated our country”, said.
The candidate participated by teleconference of the event. He was in Brasília at the inauguration of the new president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes.
