Estonian Ott Tänak, world rally champion in 2019, Will drive for M-Sport Ford in 2023 after two seasons at Huyndai, the British team announced Wednesday.
Tänak, 35, returns home. The Estonian started his WRC career in 2011 with M-Sport and left the team in 2017 after a 3rd-place finish in the world before signing for Toyota.
After a first season with the Japanese brand repeating third place, the Estonian won the title in 2019. Thanks to six victories, he is the only driver to interrupt the period of dominance of Frenchman Sébastien Ogier, who won eight titles between 2013 and 2021.
Tänak swapped Toyota for Huyndaibut the experience was not positive, finishing 3rd in 2020 and 5th in 2021.
“M-Sport is the place where I grew up as a driver and the place that taught me all the hard lessons and experience to become a top player in the World Cup,” he explained in an M-Sport statement.
