Ortega regime signs book of condolences for Pelé's death

A delegation from the Government of Nicaragua, headed by Foreign Minister Denis Moncada, signed the book of condolences for the death of the legendary Brazilian soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimento “Pelé”, opened at the Brazilian embassy in Managua, the authorities reported Thursday.

Foreign Minister Moncada signed the condolences on Wednesday as a symbol of “solidarity,” the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The book of condolences was also signed by the director of the Nicaraguan Sports Institute, Marlon Torres, a prominent former basketball player from Nicaragua.

Pelé, considered one of the best soccer players of all time and the only one to win three soccer world cups as an athlete, died on December 29 at the age of 82 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, as a result of multiple organ failure derived from colon cancer that was diagnosed in 2021.

Although Nicaragua is a country with more tendencies towards sports such as baseball or boxing, soccer is the most followed activity during world cups. EFE
