Ortega de facto banishes the vice-rector of the UCA, Jorge Huete

Daniel Ortega’s regime denied entry to Nicaragua to the vice-rector of the Central American University (UCA), Jorge Huete, who intended to return last Saturday, September 24, from a work trip he was making in Córdoba, Argentina.

UCA sources confirmed to CONFIDENTIAL that the denial of entry occurred when the academic was informed by the Copa airline, in Panama, that he was not allowed to board the flight to Nicaragua.

Huete traveled to Córdoba, Argentina, to participate in an activity on behalf of the Nicaraguan Academy of Sciences, of which he is also vice president. The airline limited itself to informing him that the Government of Nicaragua passed a “migratory rejection.”

Jorge Huete is a renowned Nicaraguan academic who directed the Molecular Biology Center of the UCA for many years.

They had already exiled the ex-rector of the UCA

The UCA reported on June 1 that Father Rolando Enrique Alvarado López, serves as the new rector of that house of studies, relieving the position of the Jesuit priest José Alberto Idiáquez Guevara, who had been in office since 2014.

Idiáquez Guevara was unable to return to Nicaragua in July because the Ortega regime did not renew his passport abroad, where he was due to health reasons.

The Jesuit priest is Nicaraguan, but he is in Mexico, where he traveled in 2021, to undergo a medical check-up and, according to sources close to the UCA, when he tried to return, he was denied entry.

Idiáquez was part of the Civic Alliance and participated in the first attempt at a National Dialogue after the Ortega massacre against the April Rebellion, mediated by the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN), but resigned from the organization when it left the National Coalition in search of of a candidate for the 2021 general vote.

The change of rectors occurred when the UCA faces various pressures from the Ortega regime, such as the cancellation of the constitutional 6% budget allocation that was assigned to grant scholarships. In addition, this year they also took away the space it occupied in the National Council of Universities (CNU).
