Organizations asked to repeal the measure of the Buenos Aires Government: "It is an act of censorship"

The signatory organizations stressed that “the limits of language are the limits of the world.”

Civil society organizations asked the government of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta to repeal the resolution that prohibits the use of inclusive language in schools in the city of Buenos Aires, in an open letter in which they highlighted that it is “an act of unprecedented censorship of a political act of love”.

“This measure violates the right of people who do not feel represented and/or questioned by the gender binarism in an unprecedented act of censorship to a political act of love, reparation and care for those who have suffered decades of violence and exclusion. , especially in the city of Buenos Aires”, led the organizations in the document that was released this Wednesday.

The Resolution 2566/2022, signed by the Buenos Aires Minister of Education, Soledad Acuñaestablished that teachers “must develop teaching activities and carry out institutional communications in accordance with the rules of the Spanish language, its grammatical norms and the official guidelines for its teaching.”

Regarding this measure, the signatory organizations argued that “inclusive language seeks to break with the cishetero norm of the Spanish academy, which does not recognize non-binary pronouns, denying the existence of historically invisible identities.”

“Language is vital when creating and making realities visible”They said in the open letter, emphasizing that “the limits of language are the limits of the world.”

“This measure violates the right of people who do not feel represented and/or questioned by the gender binarism in an unprecedented act of censorship to a political act of love, reparation and care for those who have suffered decades of violence and exclusion. “Civil society organizations

They also supported their argument in regulations of the country such as the Gender Identity Law, the Comprehensive Sexual Education Law and Decree No. 476/21.

The Law 26,743 on Gender Identity “In its article 13 it mentions that no rule, regulation or procedure may limit, restrict, exclude or suppress the exercise of the right to gender identity of people, and the rules must always be interpreted and applied in favor of access to it,” they highlighted. .

Meanwhile, presidential decree No. 476/21 “recognizes identities outside binary gender categories”while “the booklet of the Comprehensive Sexual Education Program on Law 26,150 mentions respect for diversity in one of its axes.”

The group assumed, thus, that the new Buenos Aires resolution “violates the right of people who do not feel represented and/or challenged by the gender binarism” and requested its repeal.

The open letter was signed by the Civil Association Grow-Género y Trabajo, Contratá Trans, Nodos Consultora, Civil Association Chicos.net, Unico Civil Association, Communication Civil Association for Equality, Networking and Advice to Improve Accessibility.

Also by the Network for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (REDI), BUPPA Communication, Foundation for the Study and Research of Women (FEIM), Women in Equality (MEI), National Network of Women and Women in Advertising.
