The president of the Health Commission of the Municipal Council of the Capital District, Armando Graterol, indicated that “The Ordinance for Comprehensive Care of the Elderly is complemented by the creation of the institute of the same name in Caracas. In this ordinance, the provision of Technical Aids to this population is contemplated, in the 22 Caracas parishes, the first 5 days of each month, with an approximate amount of 200 euros.
This information was disclosed by Graterol, in a special interview that took place this Monday, in the program “Café en la Mañana”, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).

The councilor pointed out that “this ordinance was promulgated by the mayoress of Caracas, A/J Carmen Meléndez, on June 1 of this year 2023. It considers the public policies that will be executed from the Institute for Comprehensive Adult Care and the Elderly”.
In relation to the first Municipal Ordinance in Caracas, on Comprehensive Care and Protection for Older Adults, Graterol pointed out that “it is an act of social justice.”
He also explained that they are working on a demographic census of the elderly, to find out about current conditions and manage the necessary care.

The legislature referred to the situation that older adults are experiencing, in France, for example, where the government wants to extend the retirement age of workers, so that pensioners receive their benefits that by law correspond to them.
“This ordinance vindicates the work of women and men who, with their effort for years of work, built our Homeland, our Nation,” Graterol specified.
This legislative instrument includes different programs to extend the useful and productive life of the elderly. “Entrepreneurship programs will be financed by the Mayor’s Office of Caracas, after academic training in these subjects, such as technology, economics, administration, among others,” said the councilor.

He also informed that in each parish there will be promoters, who are leaders elected by him in popular assemblies, who will have the task of coordinating the organizational scaffolding from the Grandparents Club, together with the neighbors and committees of the Elderly of each of the communal councils. Finally, Graterol affirmed that “The goal is that this norm is an instrument of struggle for the benefit of Adults and Older Adults.”
