Gone are the citizen demonstrations where the political cost that mismanagement would represent to the ruling party was warned.
Clara Martínez, journalist and political scientist, affirmed that the municipal elections held this year left as a lesson that the Colorado Party continues to have great strength in Asunción. Not so in the most important border cities such as Ciudad del Este and Encarnación.
He also stated that if the opposition wants to have a chance of victory in the upcoming elections, it must mature politically and put personal interests aside.
“The opposition united through closed agreements and work agendas can be successful. We see the experience of those two municipalities,” he said.
The analyst warned about the lack of greater consensus, openness and prioritizing issues that have to do with public policies.
“Sometimes, in the opposition, personal interests are prioritized, neglecting the general interest. I believe that there should be greater dialogue and greater openness to seal an alliance and a pact between all sectors, he said.
He stressed that there are many colorados who are against the current leaders of the ANR, such as Mario Abdo Benítez and Horacio Cartes, and that this flow of people can be part of the opposition electorate if a good job is done.
LEARNING
For the analyst, if there is political maturity, predisposition and work on programmatic axes, it will be shown that, once and for all, the opposition has learned from its mistakes. On the other hand, if this does not happen, and each one goes their own way, there will be no fruitful results.
“We are seeing an opening, but we don’t know how it will continue. Efraín Alegre has to demonstrate a more peaceful and diplomatic attitude so that the opposition has a chance”, he concluded.
TSJE
The Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) established Sunday, December 18, as the date for the simultaneous inmates of political organizations. While on Sunday, April 30, 2023, the general elections will take place.
CANDIDATES
Some of the candidates for the presidency of the Republic for the opposition are; Carlos Rejala, deputy for Hagamos, Kattya González, deputy for PEN, Sebastián Villarejo, deputy for Patria Querida, Sixto Pereira, senator from the Guasu Front, Hugo Fleitas, liberal governor of Cordillera, Efraín Alegre, president of the Liberal Party, Paraguayan Cubas, former senator of the National Crusade, just to name a few.
