Opposition deputies officiate to the Minister of Education for the CAE debtors’ report: “The figures we learned do not add up to us”

The deputies of Evópoli, Francisco Undurraga Y Jorge Guzmanthey sent a letter to the Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Avilato specify the data on the report of the debtors of the Credit with State Guarantee (CAE).

It should be noted that this past Tuesday, the head of the Mineduc delivered the first report on the socioeconomic characterization of CAE debtors. This document has data from the Income Commission and the Internal Revenue Service (SII), profiling the 669 thousand people who owe the credit.

The parliamentarians of Evópoli questioned the report, specifying that the text is “contradictory” and implausible.

The leader of the bench, Francisco Undurraga, specified in emmol that “the figures that we learned do not add up anywhere. We believe that they are tricky, that they are not real and, therefore, we would like to know the first report in detail.”

“It seems to us that if this report is real, it is too serious, that is, the country has provided education for all these years to many citizens so that they earn less than $250,000 a month. It does not seem to me that it is the correct figure,” he added.

Meanwhile, legislator Jorge Guzmán indicated that “it is worrying that a large majority of Chileans, according to data provided by the Ministry of Education, are earning even below the poverty line and that would mean that the study policy that the country is implementing is not improving people’s quality of life, but on the contrary it is harming them”.

In this context, both deputies argued that the official request a copy of the report, the databases used, the methodologies used and the calculations made to arrive at the data they provided.

It also requests that it detail “what treatment was given to debtors with respect to which there was no information, indicating whether in said cases an income of $0 was imputed to them, or whether they were excluded from the sample.”
