Opposition organizations sent a message of solidarity on National Father’s Day to the political prisoners who are imprisoned in the cells of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who have been prohibited from seeing their sons and daughters. The entities regret that this is “a sad day full of longings, questions and nostalgia.”
The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) denounced that “on Father’s Day many political prisoners will not be able to hug, listen to, or carry their sons and daughters. Children full of questions also suffer,” said the defense entity, which reiterated its request for the release of political prisoners because “all parents and their children deserve to be together today.”
The Renovating Democratic Union (Unamos) also lamented that on this date Nicaraguan parents “who are far from their children because they are in prison or because they are in another country, suffering from a distance, fighting to end the dictatorial regime, are the parents of the new Nicaragua.
Currently the children of at least 158 men who remain imprisoned for political reasons are facing the absence of their parents, many of whom are minors. Most of these households suffer from economic or material shortages caused by the absence of the parents who provided for their families.
Although visits are sporadically allowed in these enclosures, in many cases the experience is so traumatic that in some cases the mothers prefer not to take them and the regime does not allow the entry of photos or letters sent by their minor children.

Recently, the 76-year-old son of the political prisoner, Francisco Aguirre Sacasa, lamented that his father has not been able to establish any type of communication with his father for almost a year, who since July 27, 2021 became one more prisoner of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in my life, but especially the gentleman in this photo with me and my brother. It’s been almost a year since we spoke. Over a year since I’ve seen him. Too, too long. But he is never far from my thoughts. Stay strong, dad. Soon we will be hugging you », he stated in his account. Instagram the playwright and screenwriter of famous television series.
Since February 18, Francisco Aguirre Sacasa was sent to “home detention” with police custody, the Public Ministry reported in a statement. Like Aguirre, the political prisoners and parents, José Pallais Arana and Arturo Cruz, joined the same regime.
