MIAMI, United States. — The Institute of Cuban Historical Memory Against Totalitarianism and United Anti-Totalitarian Front (FANTU) The conference “64 Years of the Cuban Political Prison, stories of horror and patriotism” will be held next Saturday.
The event, hosted by former political prisoner Ángel de Fana, will be held at two in the afternoon at the Westchester Regional Library (9445 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33165).
The conference will offer a tight summary of the 64 years of Cuban political prison and will have the special presence of psychologist Irvin Flores, as well as testimonies from political prisoners from different eras.
Among those present will be former political prisoners Pedro Corzo, José Luis Fernández, Ángel Pardo, Jorge Luis García Pérez, better known as Antúnez, and Guillermo “Coco” Fariñas, leader of FANTU.
The guest Irvin Flores will address in his speech issues related to post-traumatic stress suffered by those who have suffered political imprisonment.
Despite having decades of history, the political prison in Cuba remains in force with the presence in the island’s prisons of 1,057 political prisoners.
According to the last report from the non-governmental organization Prisoners Defenders, the current classification of those incarcerated is as follows: 768 Convicted of Conscience, 258 Convicted of Conscience and 31 cases of “Other Political Prisoners”.
