This Wednesday, the president Alberto Fernandez began the opening of ordinary sessions in the 141st Legislative Assembly. In Congress, the president was received by Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
During the opening ceremony, the head of state gave what was his speech in the last year of government. This way, Alberto Fernandez He began his presentation by referring to the international economic crisis resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
In this sense, Alberto Fernandez He again called for peace, to end the conflict. At the same time, he stressed that 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of democracy, “the longest period of democracy in history”, and highlighted the work of the Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo.
Then, the president again referred to the attack on the vice president and once again condemned these events. Likewise, he urged justice to investigate and convict those responsible.
“I ask justice to try and condemn those who were the material and intellectual authors of this attempted murder”, he claimed. And he pointed out: “I ask you to act with the same urgency with which you act when powerful judges, prosecutors or businessmen appear as defendants.”
The head of state maintained that, despite the criticism received during his administration, he managed to face the pandemic and establish an agreement with the IMF (International Monetary Fund) that would allow the country to assume the debt left by the previous government.
Along these same lines, the president made strong criticisms of the press, since, according to him, there has been a “systematic action of disinformation.” And he stressed: “Many of these media express interests, economic and political, opponents of the government that hide or misrepresent information to their readers, listeners or viewers.”
He added: “No one, during my government, has been censored, silenced or punished for their expressions. Everyone has the right to express their opinion. We have seen the misrepresentation of reality intentionally and we have seen lying with total impudence.”
Projections for the country
In his speech, President He also emphasized the different trade relations that have been strengthened with different countries during his administration. In this sense, he stressed his intention to join the BRICS.
In addition, the president highlighted the growth in employment and exports, and that the proposed fiscal guidelines have been met. In this sense, he also highlighted the commitment of the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa.
Within this framework, the president projected good growth for the country this year, despite the global context and high inflation, which is why it is his priority to reduce it. And he considered that Argentina has many opportunities to get ahead and for there to be more equality, in a fairer country.
