Santo Domingo.-The National Meteorology Office (Onamet) announced this Thursday that the cyclone season that begins on June 1 is considered active, where the Dominican Republic, due to its geographical position in the Caribbean region, could be affected by some of the effects of a tropical cyclone such as strong winds, torrential rains and abnormal waves.
The cyclonic season in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico begins on June 1 and ends on November 30 of each year, a period in which it is recommended that civil protection institutions and the Dominican population remain attentive to weather information related to the cyclones emitted by the Onamet.
Meteorology specified that its considerations in relation to the cyclone season are based on the report of the group of experts from the University of Colorado, United States and the researcher Philip Klotzbach, in their latest forecast for the month of April where they reported that the formation of 19 named tropical cyclones with an annual mean of 14.
It was also reported that among these cyclones, nine could reach the category of hurricane with winds of 119 kph, of which four hurricanes could be intense, with winds greater than 178 kilometers per hour, according to 30-year statistical studies of the cyclonology of the region.

Another condition that the experts analyzed was the last run of numerical models regarding the conditions of the Eastern Equatorial Pacific, which project that for this year the condition of the La Niña phenomenon will be present until the end of the summer of the year 2022.
The names of the tropical cyclones for this year 2022 in the Atlantic Ocean will be: Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gastón, Hermine, Ian, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Martin, Nicole, Owen, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tobias, Virginie, Walter.
