GUANTANAMO, Cuba. — The political prisoner and protester of July 11 (11J) Alexander Díaz Rodríguez is on a hunger strike in the Guanajay prison, province of Artemisa, demanding improvements in living conditions in that prison.

Díaz Rodríguez, coordinator of the Union for Free Cuba Party (PUNCLI) and managing leader of the Emilia Project in Artemisa, declared a hunger strike on May 29, according to what was announced to CubaNet by Juan Luis Bravo Rodríguez, members of both platforms. of opposition.

The inmate has as requirements that he be given the necessary medical assistance and that the authorities of that prison comply with the Mandela Rulesstandards dictated by the United Nations for the treatment of prisoners.

Alexander Díaz Rodríguez declared himself fasting after receiving a beating by the authorities of that prison when he demanded that they give him medication for high blood pressure and gastritis, two diseases he suffers from.

Moraima Rodríguez Batista, Alexander’s aunt, assured that members of the Guanajay prison headquarters went to look for her at her house on June 2 to convince her nephew to abandon the strike. However, the 9/11 protester has lost his memory of her due to her weak state, which is why he didn’t recognize her.

Moraima could see how two inmates brought Alexander by the arms because he could not stand on his own.

The also political prisoner and protester of 11 J Erdwin Rodríguez Foncea, a member of PUNCLI and the Emilia Project, assured Díaz Rodríguez that he has been in a punishment cell since he stood up, without any clothes and without receiving water since then.

Rodríguez Foncea also denounced that the managing leader of the Emilia Project in Artemisa has been taken out of his cell at night and beaten, for which he has spent the night shouting in protest at such acts.

Alexander Díaz Rodríguez was prosecuted in the month of December of last year in the People’s Provincial Court of Artemisa. He received a six-year prison sentence for the alleged crimes of public disorder and attack.
