Ombudsman and the UN visit the Migration Station in Lajas Blancas in Darién

A field visit to the Lajas Blancas Temporary Migration Reception Station (ETRM) in the province of Darién was carried out by the Ombudsman, Eduardo Leblanc González, together with members of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights ( OHCHR), accompanied by representatives of five (5) countries.

“We were able to talk with a group of migrants and we were able to highlight some issues such as the lack of money to get off the road and stomach illnesses, so we have a set of issues to resolve, such as talking to the bus driver’s union, talking to UNICEF the issue of water,” said Leblanc González.

In addition, he added that they will continue working together with the Office of the High Commissioner, since Panama offers many more guarantees and comforts than other countries in the region and that this has been an achievement in this defense administration.

Accompanying the Ombudsman were the director of the Regional Ombudsman’s Office in Darién, Maribel Peña; Human Rights Officer Benjamín Rodríguez; the person in charge of the Unión Chocó Regional Office, Ercio Tunay; the director of International Cooperation, Jonathan Santana.
