Omara Portuondo announces concert in Mexico

The ninety-two-year-old interpreter Omara Portuondo announced presentations for the coming month of March in Mexico as part of his Vida world tour.

At the moment it is a unique concert, with a date for Saturday March 11, which will take place at the Esperanza Iris City Theaterlocated in the capital of Mexico according to their social networks.

In a first message from Twitter, Portuondo warned of the possibility of two presentations.

“It is always a satisfaction to return to that country that I love so much, as well as its people,” he said.

The Diva of the Buena Vista Social Clubbegan her career in 1945 as a dancer at the Tropicana cabaret and since then has consolidated her image as an exponent of traditional music.

Among the recognitions of the also known as “girlfriend of feeling” are a Grammy Award, two Latin Grammys and the prestigious Billboard Latin Music Award, in 2005. In 2019 she received the Latino Award for Musical Excellence.

Added to this are his nominations for the Latin Grammy Academy in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005, and the last one in 2021 for the song “Bolero a la Vida”, recorded with the Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gavy Moreno.

The interpreter of genres such as jazz, nueva trova, traditional Cuban song, son, danzón, bolero and habanera premiered her phonogram during the pandemic butterflies (2020), which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the category of Best Tropical Contemporary Album.

Vida constitutes the farewell to the Cuban interpreter’s stages.
