Olimpia pulls heart and pride and reaches the Group Phase

Olimpia, who lost 3-1 in Rio, tied the series at 89′ (2-0) and with undeniable forcefulness scored on penalties (4-1) qualifying for the Group Phase of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2022. Fluminense , totally surpassed, will play the South American.

A bursting Defensores del Chaco welcomed Olimpia and Fluminense today for the second leg match corresponding to Phase 3 of CONMEBOL Libertadores 2022.

The game began to be played at full speed on the visitors’ field due to the infernal harassment applied by Julio Cáceres’ team, knowing the defeat (3-1) that they reaped in Rio and the two goals they needed to at least match the overall marker.

Fluminense opted to play with the patience of the Paraguayans and got bookings from Fernando Cardozo (14′) and Richard Ortíz (20′), although he was exposed to the contras commanded by Derlis González and the always participative Alejandro Silva.

With possession in their favour, Olimpia cornered their overwhelmed rival and, as a result of the exasperating pressure, came first (2-3 on aggregate) through a Jorge Recalde header (37′).

The goal of ‘Pollo’ further emboldened an Olimpia who advanced their lines and did not stop bombing the Rio de Janeiro area until they went to dressing rooms, using the security shown by the Uruguayan goalkeeper Gastón Olveira, who had to deactivate a couple of dangerous incursions of the Argentine attacker Germán Cano (he doubled in the first leg).

And the complementary saw exactly the same process; Olimpia working well inside the alien field and the Flo waiting almost at the edge of her area. The desire of the fringed almost condemned him in advance because in a Gabriel Teixeira attack he was very badly stopped, but the Uruguayan Olveira intervened again to save the situation (66′).

The Brazilian cast put cold cloths on the procedure by tightening the exits and with the presence of three holding midfielders (after the expulsion of captain Nino at 80′), which ended up hindering the fringed circuit.

And Guillermo Paiva gave justice to the procedure. He appeared throwing himself in extremis and signed the 2-0 (89 ′) that drove the old Saxony stadium crazy.

Olimpia had to win it towards the end with a ball that David Braz took over the line, but nothing else happened and they had to resort to penalties.

THE BATCH

And Gastón Olveira enlarged his figure. He stopped William and Felipe Melo, and with goals from Néstor Camacho, Hugo Quintana, Richard Ortíz and Derlis González (André scored for the visitors) he ended up giving Olimpia the 4-1 victory.

The Dean, against all odds, reaches the Group Phase.
