The National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), which measures the preview of official inflation, was 0.95% in March this year. This is the biggest price hike for a March preview since 2015 (1.24%).
The data were released today (25) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The rate was, however, below the one observed in the previous month’s preview (0.99%). The IPCA-15 accumulates a rate of 10.79% in 12 months. The IPCA-E, which measures the quarterly IPCA-15, was 2.54%.
According to the IBGE, the nine groups of products and services had high prices, especially food and beverages, with an inflation rate of 1.95%, above the 1.20% in February.
Among the items with the highest increases, there are carrots (45.65%), tomatoes (15.46%), fruits (6.34%), potatoes (11.81%), eggs chicken (6.53%) and long-life milk (3.41%).
Other groups with a relevant impact on the inflation preview were health and personal care (1.30%), transport (0.68%), housing (0.53%) and household items (1.47%).
In the case of health, the items with the most important increases were personal hygiene (3.98%), perfumes (12.84%), pharmaceutical products (0.83%) and medical and dental services (0.58%).
In the case of transport, the main impacts came from gasoline (0.83%), diesel oil (4.10%) and vehicular gas (5.89%).
