NEW YORK.- Dominicans in this city have been pleased by the agreements reached last week by the state governor, Kahty Hochul, with the State Assembly for this year’s budget of 220 billion dollars.
The agreements include reforming the bail law that was approved in 2019.
It would be suspended for people who commit crimes with the use of weapons, hate crimes, who are repeat offenders, and now the judges will consider if someone’s criminal record determines that there is a probability of doing “harm” if they are released.
In a document, the Quisqueyans who did not want to identify themselves, maintain that it comes to bring relief and restore a little security.
Likewise, the New York family will benefit from more resources for the payment of rent and more money will be allocated for preschool education and child care. Also, a raise for healthcare workers.
The agreement also contemplates a reduction in the price of gasoline, which could be up to 16 cents per gallon as of June 1, thanks to the reduction in the tax paid on fuel.
In addition, the program will be made permanent in restaurants so that customers can buy liquor with the purchase of food to go.
An additional $8 billion was added to the original budget.
Also, several demonstrations were held to include medical insurance for undocumented immigrants in said budget, since more than seven billion dollars were approved to help with the costs of day care for those who were born in the country or have legal documents.
Undocumented children are only eligible for Head Start programs such as pre-K and 3-K.
The organization Make the Road NYC says that it is necessary to include all immigrants in health insurance for the well-being of their families.
