North Dakota bans abortion at six weeks of pregnancy even if it is rape or incest

Judith Pena | April 24, 2023

The Republican Governor of North Dakota, in the United States (USA), Doug Burgum, signed a law that prohibits abortion at six weeks of pregnancy.

The controversial bill was to take effect immediately and toughens anti-abortion laws and requires carrying a pregnancy to term after 6 weeks even in cases of rape or incest.

This becomes one of the strictest abortion bans in the US and despite being designed to take effect immediately according to the AP news agency, last month the North Dakota Supreme Court ruled that a ban abortion law will remain blocked while a lawsuit continues over its constitutionality.
