The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, during the Community Work Tour stated that “no one is above the Law” and that justice must do its job “whoever falls”, this, in relation to the latest arrests of officials allegedly involved in illegal activities.
He recalled that at his inauguration, on July 1, 2019, he made this warning, for which he ensures that justice must continue to do its job because it is the “backbone of a democracy.”
Given the possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon in the country, the president stated that every week his administration reviews this issue in the Cabinet for Monitoring and Execution of the Commitment because “water is a priority for human consumption and food production.”
He specified that the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) manages the purchase of deep drilling rigs and will also acquire special tanks to supply water to the population if necessary. In food production, small dams will be activated in streams and rivers for agricultural use, he explained.
During this work tour, the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot) delivered a fully furnished basic housing unit to the family of Milagros Pinzón, 5 years old, resident in Chepo.
The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) granted a “pick-up” type vehicle to the Mides de Chepo Region, in addition to six certificates to the beneficiaries of the “Muévete por Panamá” Literacy Program, dressmaking supplies to the beneficiaries of the Project for the Promotion of Social Capital and Productive Inclusion and a work scholarship for a beneficiary of the Entrepreneur Sponsor Program.
In other areas of action of the Colmena Plan, the Institute for the Training and Use of Human Resources (Ifarhu) awarded 19 scholarships to students of different levels, who also received laptops and tablets from the Transforming Lives program.
